Meet our Patients
Pixie is a 5 month old Pug who originally visited us for her Second vaccination. Pixies mum also asked we check her foreleg as pixie had been limping since she fell out of bed a few days earlier.
After talking with Pixie's owner our veterinarian was able to feel some crepitus or grinding around the antebrachium/elbow. We then confirmed a fracture in Pixie’s fore leg with x-rays.
Now that we knew what Pixie was dealing with we could help her. Because of the type of break, Pixie needed to wear a cast for 4 weeks! This was sure to slow her down (a little).
During the 4 weeks we would see Pixie in the clinic every week to change her cast and monitor her recovery. Unfortunately Pixie’s cast caused some problems mainly cast sores, this was caused by the cast rubbing on a part of Pixies leg, this is not an uncommon problem seen in castings for animals. These were subsequently treated as the cast was changed every week.
After 4 weeks we re x-rayed her leg, Pixie’s x-rays showed a good callus had formed. This meant that Pixie could have the cast off and a smaller bandage put in its place. After another 2 weeks Pixies leg had healed sufficiently and she had use of all of her legs once again.
It was a pleasure to see her happy snuffy face every week. Pixie was a very special patient and still loves coming into the clinic. Pixies mum is very happy that she is back to her old self!
