About Us

Proud to have provided over 70 years of trusted care in our community.

First established in 1949 as the ‘Central Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Veterinary Club’ the business was renamed Vet Services Hawke’s Bay in 1974 and has continued to grow, improve and expand their services ever since.

Today, Vet Services has three Hawkes Bay clinics located in Hastings, Napier and Waipukurau. The combined skills of veterinarians across multiple locations create a comprehensive veterinary service for both the client and animals’ benefit.

Why choose a career with vet services?

Vet Services are proudly not a corporate. With a team of nine owners all living locally and actively working within our clinics.

Vet Services now employs over 100 people across our three Hawkes Bay Clinics. We place an emphasis on happiness and team work to create a workplace that is fun, productive and successful.  Many of our senior staff joined Vet Services as new graduates and are now part of our leadership team.

Our management are open and approachable leading with a community-orientated, friendly environment that has served us well over the decades.

a truly mixed practice clinic

As a truly mixed practice we care for companion animals, equine and service farms with sheep, beef, dairy, and deer focusses. This huge amount of variety allows our team to develop interesting and diverse careers.

Our production animal vets and rural technicians are hugely experienced and up to date with the latest technology and procedures. As a team, we are very focused on preventative medicine and consultancy services and enjoy working with a loyal and proactive client base.

There is a great depth of knowledge amongst our companion animal vets and an excellent team of nurses and support staff. Our case-loads include a wide range surgical and general medicine including orthopaedics and canine reproductive work. Our Hastings and Waipukurau clinics are both BESTPRACTICE® accredited and very well-equipped for all aspects of small animal medical care and surgery. We are excited to have our Napier clinic moving in to a brand-new, purpose-built facility later this year, which will lead to plenty of opportunities.

In 2019 we launched an equine focused veterinary service (called VS Equine). The combined skills and knowledge of six equine veterinarians and three techs provide a comprehensive service for both the horse and our clients benefit.

Personal Development Opportunities

We actively encourage and fund our staff to continue their education. As well as paid CPD opportunities, such as conferences and courses with external providers, we regularly hold in house training sessions and vet team meetings with all Vet Services clinics (Hawkes Bay, Dannevirke, and Wairarapa) to keep our team up to date. These are great opportunities to share information and sit down for a meal and a few laughs.

Social Events and Staff Wellness

At Vet Services we work hard, and we play hard, with a very active social and wellness committee who ensure that there’s always sport and events to look forward to. We recognise veterinary medicine can be stressful at times and have wellness advocates within our leadership team committed to ensuring all staff have our full support.

Hawkes Bay is a fantastic place to live. All the benefits small-town NZ with the opportunities of the city, and  fantastic wineries, beaches and the great outdoors right on your doorstep.

Vet Services strongly believe to have a successful business we must have a happy team with a good work life balance and strong connections to our local community.
