Canine Reproduction Services

Our Canine Breeding Services at a Glance

Supporting Every Step of Your Breeding Journey

Whether you’re planning your first litter, preserving valuable bloodlines, breeding your next show champion, or producing the next generation of working dogs, our experienced veterinary team is here to help.

At Vet Services, we’ve been supporting dog breeders for more than 40 years. Our canine reproduction service combines decades of experience with modern reproductive techniques to help maximise breeding success while prioritising the health and wellbeing of both the bitch and her puppies.

From breeding advice and fertility testing through to insemination, pregnancy care, and whelping support, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.

Transcervical Insemination (TCI)

We are proud to offer Transcervical Insemination (TCI) — a modern, non-surgical method of artificial insemination.

Using specialised equipment, semen is placed directly into the uterus without the need for surgery, providing a less invasive option than traditional surgical insemination.

TCI offers several advantages:

  • No surgical incision
  • No general anaesthetic in most cases
  • Faster recovery
  • Excellent option for chilled and frozen semen
  • Suitable for many breeding situations

Our veterinarians will discuss whether TCI is the best option for your dog and breeding programme.

Timing is everything

Successful breeding depends on getting the timing right.

Progesterone testing allows us to accurately identify ovulation and recommend the ideal breeding window, helping maximise conception rates and making the best use of valuable semen.

This is particularly important when using chilled or frozen semen or when breeding from dogs that are travelling.

Pregnancy and Whelping Support

Our care doesn’t stop once your dog has been bred.

We’re here throughout pregnancy, offering:

  • Pregnancy confirmation by ultrasound
  • Nutritional advice
  • Pregnancy health checks
  • Whelping preparation
  • Planned caesarean sections where required
  • Newborn puppy care and health advice

Our goal is healthy mums, healthy puppies, and confident owners.

Meet our reproduction Veterinarian

Our reproduction service is led by Dr Annelise Enslin, based at our Waipukurau clinic.

Annelise has a special interest in canine reproduction and companion animal medicine and has worked with breeders across a wide range of breeds and breeding programmes.

She spent two and a half years working alongside the late Dr Stuart Badger, who dedicated much of his career to advancing canine reproduction services at Vet Services. Today, Annelise continues that legacy by combining practical experience with modern reproductive techniques to deliver the highest standard of reproductive care.

Annelise is also authorised to provide MPI semen export certification for breeders exporting canine genetics overseas.
